Connecting the dishwasher in the apartment can be done by yourself. If you do not know how to install a dishwasher, read our guide. The dishwasher can be connected and installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions or ordered by a specialist. The installation of the dishwasher is not very difficult. Built-in dishwasher connection.
They are usually made within kitchen cabinets, and their doors are often encapsulated with the material from which the cabinets are made (special models: built-in dishwashers). Dishwashers are usually produced in two sizes (45 and 60 cm wide). In narrower ones you can wash eight-nine sets of dishes at once (including dishes for serving dishes), in wider ones – 12. If the kitchen is small and there is no space for a typical dishwasher, you can buy a smaller device (height 46, width 55 and a depth of 46 cm) reminiscent of a microwave and occupy roughly the same amount of space. It will fit a maximum of 5 sets of dishes. Such small dishwashers can be placed on the kitchen counter or built into the cabinet.
Capacity dishwashers 12 sets consume about 20 liters of water in a normal washing cycle (prewash, wash and rinse). To wash such a number of dishes by hand under running water, you need three to four times more. During the full washing of 12 sets, the dishwasher, apart from water, will also use from 1.1 to 1.6 kWh of electricity (assuming that the cost of electricity is on average 0.45 PLN / kWh). Comparison with the cost of manual washing is not easy, but it also disadvantages the latter. One of the dishwasher programs is always economical (called eco). Washing medium dirty dishes in it, we will use even less water – about 15 l and about 1 kWh of energy. The same work done by hand will cost us 40 liters of water and 5 kWh of electricity needed to heat it.
How to install dishwasher?
Connecting a dishwasher is not complicated. Usually, only cold water is fed into it, only some dishwashers can be connected to warm (not exceeding 60 °C). This way you can reduce the consumption of electricity needed to heat it. Water should be of the same quality as for drinking. It cannot contain too much iron and manganese suspensions and be too hard because it worsens the quality of washing and destroys the device. It is best to check it in advance and, if necessary, install suitable filters before installing the dishwasher. The water flow in the installation should be 10-15 l / min, and its pressure should have the value required for the given device (it is given in the manual and is from 0.1 to 1 MPa).
Dishwasher connection: water and sewage approaches.
Dishwasher connection: approaches – water and sewage – are mounted behind or next to the dishwasher. There must be easy access to them. Bring clean water. In the nearby places where the dishwasher will be placed, a water system is installed with a 1 “inlet valve installed at its end with a hose connector or a special – adapted for connecting washing machines and dishwashers – ball valve or with a ceramic head. When connecting the dishwasher to the valve, a water supply hose is connected to the dishwasher. Dishwashers are bought complete with such a hose. It usually has a check valve to prevent the backflow of water into the system or the so-called Aquastop system.
Connecting the dishwasher to the water – instructions.
The easiest way is to bring water to the dishwasher from the sink faucet, and drain the sewage to the sink siphon. The elements needed to connect the dishwasher, i.e. a three-way tap 1 “, 1” extension, seals and a sink siphon element with side connection, can be purchased in most stores with installation products. The dishwashers are equipped as standard with a water supply and drainage hoses (lengths 1.2 – 1.5 m). However, if the hoses are too short (for example, the dishwasher from the sink will be separated by cabinets), then they should be replaced with longer ones.
The first step when connecting the dishwasher to the water system is to turn off the main water tap in the apartment, and then remove the battery. On the cold water pipe – most dishwashers are supplied only with cold water – a three-way tap is installed. An extension screw is screwed into the hot water hose. When doing so, be sure to install the gaskets. Then just insert the battery and screw the valve hose to the tap.
If the battery is edge-mounted, this connection is made identically. However, it is better to do it under the sink – the dishwasher hose will then be hidden. Dirty water from the dishwasher is best drained to the sink siphon. To do this, replace the upper fitting of this siphon with a fitting with a lateral connection to which the drain hose from the dishwasher is attached. So that this snake does not slip, you can squeeze it with a cyberman.
Connecting the dishwasher to the water and siphon.
If the dishwasher does not have a factory-fitted filter, a rubber seal with a metal or plastic strainer must be installed at the water inlet (should be included as an accessory). The inlet hose must be laid freely away from sharp edges and high-temperature components. It must not break down and have bends, it should not be shortened or extended.
The dishwashers are equipped with 1.2-1.5 m long water inlet and drain lines as standard. This is enough to connect the device set next to the sink. Drain dirty. Draining water from the dishwasher can be connected to the sewer approach at the sink or you can make a separate approach directly connected to the sewer system. The drain should be at a height of at least 30 and a maximum of 100 cm above the floor. The height is specified by the manufacturer and given in the instructions. The diameter of the sewer pipe at the connection must not be less than 40 mm. If the approach of this diameter is longer than 3 m, it should be ventilated, for example through an aeration valve.
Draining water directly into the sewage system can be done by sliding the end of the drain hose from the device into the sewage pipe through a rubber reduction with an opening slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the hose. The end of the hose must not reach the level of sewage in the sewage system. When renovating the kitchen, especially when it is also accompanied by the replacement of an old sewage system, it is worth doing it “professionally” and elegantly by installing a special siphon to the dishwasher:
- Surface-mounted;
- integrated concealed with a water connection with a separate valve;
- integrated concealed with water connection and valve;
- or integrated flush-mounted with a splash-proof electrical socket.
The connections of the dishwasher to the plumbing and sewage system must always be made in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions in the dishwasher’s instructions.
Power connection to the dishwasher.
It is important to connect the dishwasher to the power supply. The dishwashers are powered by 220 V, and the sockets to which they are connected must be grounded. The dishwasher can only be connected to a socket with a protective pin, it should also be splash-proof (protected against water drops). Depending on the model, the circuit from which it is powered (for 220 V) requires protection with a 10 or 16 amp fuse. The socket should be installed at least 60 cm from the water intake point (the regulations do not specify any requirements as to their distance from the sewage system pipes). It’s best to place them under the kitchen counter.
How to install dishwasher without altering the installation?
It is also possible to connect the dishwasher to the installation without altering it. The dishwasher will work, but the connection will be visible and not very aesthetic. You will need the following elements (3-way 3-way tap, 1 “extension, gaskets and a sink siphon element with side connection) that can be bought in most stores with installation products.
If the faucet is wall-mounted, a three-way valve is installed between it and the cold water pipe. An extension screw is screwed into the hot water pipe and connected to it with a water supply hose. In the case of a faucet mixer, it is better not to connect under the sink. In both cases, remember to install gaskets.
Wastewater drainage is best connected to the sink siphon. This can also be done by “not moving” the sewage system – place the drain hose directly in the sink. The end of the hose hangs on its edge using a profiling knee. This solution should be considered rather provisional. Sliding of the drain hose from the edge of the device during the operation of the device is the most common reason for flooding apartments.
